Spark of Hope #26-- Small acts of service

Hello and welcome to today's 94:18 Spark of Hope blog!

What comes to your mind when you think of service? Some people think of giving, others think of receiving. But what is truly service? Does service really have to be enormous deeds for others? Can we only serve people on big, planned, service trips? Of course not.

Service can be as simple as doing an extra chore or helping a friend out with homework. In the Bible, Mary and Martha were welcoming Jesus to their home one day. While Martha was busy cooking and cleaning the house for Jesus’s stay, Mary was serving Jesus by worshipping Him at His feet. She was helping Jesus with what He needed and was spending time with Him. This shows service because many people think that service has to be a big project in order to be important. Jesus Himself came down to earth to serve us, instead of being served. Matthew 20:28 agrees, "Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”"

Although big service projects are amazing and truly are beneficial to the people receiving the service, small acts of service shouldn’t be overlooked, as what Mary was doing. Instead of not serving others because you feel as if you can’t go on a huge mission trip, you can bake your neighbor cookies. You can vacuum the house. You can help you sibling with homework. You can be there for a friend. These small acts of service are exactly what Jesus encourages throughout our daily lives.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

He said, “Go and tell this people: “‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’

Isaiah 6:8-9 ‭‭‭NIV‬‬
